Invitation Letter

Dear Fellow Industry Professional:
We go to work every day as an industry doing our part to repair collision-damaged vehicles. We put in eight hours or more of honest labor and when finished take satisfaction in knowing we have helped the customer and earned our keep.
Many of us also participate in local philanthropic endeavors, making donations of time or money to help people in our communities. Rarely, however, do we have the opportunity to do so utilizing our own skills. Wouldn’t it be exciting if we could come together as an industry, pool our resources and make a difference in the lives of those who are right in our own backyards?
We can and we are, in a wonderful program called Recycled Rides.
The National Auto Body Council (NABC) is proud to announce the official rollout of this initiative, a consumer awareness project whereby members of the NABC repair and donate vehicles to working poor families in their locality. One-hundred simultaneous vehicle donations will take place on Monday November 24th 2008, just a few days before Thanksgiving.
In addition, Recycled Rides will be showcased by NABC at this year’s NACE. For three consecutive days, once each day, donated vehicles will be presented to the local families selected to receive them. We expect this to be an unforgettable start to this year’s holiday season.
Recycled Rides is dependent upon the unified participation of all industry segments, and cannot succeed without it. What can you do to help?
Repairers: Your skills and equipment are needed to repair the donated vehicle and to oversee the process of getting the vehicle into the recipient’s hands. Working closely with vehicle donors you will locate transportation worthy of repair and get it to your shop. NABC provides a workbook that will guide you through this process step by step and ensure your success.
Vehicle Donors: Your donations are the foundation that makes Recycled Rides possible. NABC is reaching out to insurers, rental car companies, vehicle recyclers and others who can assist in the identification of vehicles for this project. Ideal are mini-vans with close to 100,000 miles on them that are not structurally totaled. Your donation will be made directly to a local charity that will handle all the necessary paperwork.
Paint Manufacturers: You can help by making available the materials needed to refinish the vehicle and, if desired, offer other assistance such as helping the shop organize the hand-off event.
Parts Vendors and Others: You can donate the parts to help get these vehicles back in shape and on the road. Keep in mind that some service parts may be needed to ensure the recipient’s vehicle is road-worthy.
We have put together a useful blueprint and have assembled a top-notch team to help all involved parties achieve our collective goal. All that is missing is you, your organization and your leadership skills. Please join us in this worthy cause.
